What with my daily uniform of old jeans, black t-shirts, and cat-hair-covered hoodies, I don’t think most people who know me would suspect that I secretly harbor a ridiculous love of fashion and clothing and purses and shoes and all manner of frivolous, fabulous girly things. The truth is that no matter how much I wish I were the kind of pulled-together woman who wore sleek business suits to work and sexy cocktail dresses to parties, I’m barely the kind of woman who can manage to find the time to run a brush through her hair in the morning. Any actual effort feels so uncomfortable to me… like I’m an awkward little girl, a six-year-old playing dress-up, all wobbly legs and tripping over my own feet and unsure of myself.
Last year, I had all these grand plans to lose weight and spend tons of money on awesome clothes and accessories and start dressing like a grown-up. Of course, that was before I knew I was pregnant and that my real plans for the year were going to include gaining a bunch of weight, spending 90% of my time on the couch in my jammies, and not being able to wear any pants that didn’t come with huuuuuuge elastic waistband. So, there’s that. Maybe this year will be my year, but I’m not gonna be too hard on myself. In fact, just being able to squeeze into my old jeans will be enough for me.
But in the meantime, man, I sure do love lusting after clothes. I was recently re-reminded of Polyvore and all its awesomeness. I found my old account and I’m still in love with some of the outfits I put together…
I may make a habit of dressing vicariously through Polyvore until I have the time and money to start pretending to be a grown-up myself. Here’s today’s wish-I-was-wearing outfit:
